Stone Soup Week

About Stone Soup Week

Every year in March, the Stone Soup folktale is recreated as the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba brings the community together to enjoy a warm bowl of soup, while raising funds and awareness for school meal programs across Manitoba!

Why? Because school meal programs need our support!

Currently, many schools operate their programs with limited funding and resources. School staff and volunteers work hard to provide nutritious meals and snacks for all students in need throughout the day. With sufficient funding, schools are able to increase the quantity, quality and variety of foods that can be offered.

Stone Soup 2024

The Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba (CNCM) hosted its 12th Annual Stone Soup fundraiser in support of Manitoba school meal and snack programs.

CNCM Board and staff would like to thank everyone that participated in our event! A special thank you to all the people that purchased soup, restaurants that jumped on board to create innovative and tasty soups and everyone that made a donation or purchased a raffle ticket.

With all of Manitoba coming together to support this event, over $27,000 was raised! That’s one breakfast for over 13,000 students!

As always, the event would not have been a success without the ongoing support of our event sponsors!

Thank you to our Stone Soup 2024 Sponsors!

Stone Soup Raffle

The Council ran its fourth annual 60/40 online raffle as part of Stone Soup week. The pot grew to $3,620 and one lucky Manitoba resident went home with 40% of the ticket sales. The winner generously donated $1,000 of their winnings to the Council which, along with the remaining 60% of ticket sales, directly supports school meal and snack programs.

Stone Soup Week

The province-wide Stone Soup Week returned for the third year in a row, which brought together restaurants from all across Manitoba. Each participating restaurant created a signature soup to sell on March 11-17th, with $1 from every bowl of soup being donated to the Council. Everyone was able to plan their soups for the week and vote for their favourites using the Stone Soup web page which featured an interactive map with details from participating restaurants!

To help kick off the week, a Media Event was held at Rudy’s Eat & Drink in Winnipeg where several participating restaurants assembled to offer samples of their signature soup. It was a great way to preview the delicious soup on offer for the week and to hear more about the impact of school meal and snack programs in Manitoba.
