Presented by Manitoba Healthy Food in Schools, Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba & Food Matters Manitoba. This workshop is for anyone working hands on with breakfast, lunch or snack programs; in canteens, and cafeterias; or with school hot lunches.
Spend the day generating menu ideas and working hands on in the kitchen to serve up delicious meals and snacks. You’ll leave this full-day, interactive workshop with fresh ideas for the school year!
We are offering the same workshop 4 times – you pick the date that works best for you!

The Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba is looking for volunteer Board members to join our Board of Directors. The Council meets eight to ten times per year between September and June, usually for two-hour sessions. The Board provides governance, strategic direction and fundraising for this registered charity which oversees funding allocation and resourcing to school breakfast, snack and lunch programs throughout Manitoba. Some experience on a Board of Directors for a non-profit organization is beneficial but not necessary. Individuals who have skills in marketing, communications, accounting or fundraising are encouraged to apply. In addition to attendance at scheduled meetings, as ambassadors for the organization, Board members are expected to be available for assisting with sub-committee work and special events to increase community awareness and support of the Council. Our 6th annual Stone Soup fundraiser is just around the corner! Join us at the Manitoba Hydro Lobby on Wednesday, March 14th to enjoy soups prepared by some of Winnipeg’s most interesting and talented chefs.
Donations of $10 or more are eligible for three Stone Soup tasting tickets, bread and fruit. All donations of $20 or more are tax deductible. Donations are distributed as grants to schools and community organizations around Manitoba that provide breakfast, lunch and snack programs for children and youth. These nutrition programs are an important tool for improving learning outcomes, ensuring equal opportunities, building positive relationships and creating safe spaces. Let’s get together to celebrate and support Manitoba’s children and youth.

How can you donate?
- You can donate in advance online. You will receive a printable ticket that you can exchange for soup vouchers at the event.
- In person, in advance. We will be at the Manitoba Hydro Lobby on Tuesday, March 13th from 11:00am until 5:00pm. Get your soup vouchers early, and avoid the line at the event!
- In person at the event. We will have donation tables set up at each end of the Manitoba Hydro lobby and will be accepting donations by cash, credit card, or debit.

Our TEAM is excited to welcome Ash Alberg as the new administrative coordinator for the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba. Our program dietitians, Maxine Meadows and Clara Birnie, are leading the site visits, workshops, and providing other program support. For a list of our Board Members, click here.
Workshop November 24
Registration is now open for our Fall Workshop in Winnipeg! Connect, share, and learn by attending our workshop scheduled for November 24th, at the North Centennial Recreation Facility in Winnipeg. We have a full day of programming for you, including sessions about working with dietary restrictions and allergies, hands-on cooking classes, and even a grocery store tour! You can find the full agenda here.
We invite all current CNCM supported programs to attend, with a maximum of 2 participants per program. Space is limited, so be sure to register early! Please click here to register and choose your sessions. For those of you who are traveling from out of town, we have travel grants available. Please read the eligibility guidelines before applying here.
Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for November 21st. We hope you can join us! More details available soon.
Our next intake of applications will be April 15, 2018 for the 2018-19 school year.

Thank you to all of the schools that completed their applications for funding by the deadline. You will notice that the deadline for year-end reports has moved to July 15, 2017, this year. You can access the Year-End Report here.

Stone Soup 2017 was a big success
Thank you to all of the volunteers, chefs, celebrity judges, sponsors, and especially the patrons for attending our annual fundraiser to support child nutrition programs in Manitoba. Congratulations to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s chef Wayne Aastrom for winning the “People’s Choice” soup ladle!
This year we had some excitement as the judges had a tie and chose the following TWO chefs to receive the “Judge’s Choice” soup ladle:
Frenchway Cafe’s chef Clint Riguidel for his soup: Thai coconut curry w/ maple leaf crostini & optional shrimp
Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s chef Wayne Aastrom for his soup: Old cheddar and potato chowder with candied bacon

Applications for funding for the 2017-2018 school year are due on April 15, 2017. The application is now available on our website here.
Schools that are currently receiving funding for the 2016-2017 school year need to complete their year-end reports by July 15, 2017. We will let you know when the year-end report is available. Please keep your receipts from your purchases so we can review them. Photocopies are acceptable.

Stone Soup 2017 was a great success!
Thank you to everyone who came out to support our fifth annual Stone Soup event, held on March 22, 2017, in Winnipeg.
